High-Protein Peanut Flour Rotis

Vegan Protein: Sources You Should Know About | The Well by Northwell

Protein plays an important role in everyday nutrition. It supports muscle maintenance, recovery after physical activity, and overall satiety, helping you feel full for longer. However, many traditional meals—especially those centered around cereals—can sometimes be lower in protein than what the body needs.

This is where The Sehat Essentials’ Peanut Flour can make a meaningful difference. Made from defatted peanuts, it is naturally high in protein and lower in fat, making it a practical ingredient for everyday cooking. Instead of relying only on protein powders or supplements, this flour allows you to add plant-based protein directly into regular meals such as rotis.

When combined with vital wheat gluten, the dough gains elasticity, making it easier to roll and cook while still delivering the nutritional benefits of peanut flour.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup The Sehat Essentials’ Peanut Flour

  • 2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten

  • ⅓–½ cup water (add gradually)

  • Optional: a pinch of salt

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine the peanut flour, vital wheat gluten, and salt if using. Mix them well so the ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. Add water gradually while mixing. Peanut flour absorbs water differently from wheat flour, so add a little at a time until the dough begins to come together.

  3. Knead the mixture for about 4–5 minutes until it forms a smooth, slightly firm dough. If the dough feels dry, add a teaspoon of water and knead again.

  4. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes. Resting allows the gluten to hydrate and improves the texture of the rotis.

  5. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each one into a thin round roti.

  6. Heat a tawa or flat pan on medium heat. Cook the roti until bubbles appear, flip it, and cook the other side until light brown spots form.

These rotis are a simple way to increase protein in everyday meals without changing familiar eating habits. They pair well with sabzi, dal, yogurt, or chutney and can also be used as a base for wraps and rolls.

By using The Sehat Essentials’ Peanut Flour, everyday foods like rotis can become more nutritious, more filling, and better aligned with modern dietary needs, while still keeping the taste and comfort of traditional home cooking.
